Ophelia- a fantastic show @ Fort Mason Center, SF
April 11th, 13th & 14th

Situated on the northern rim of San Francisco on the Bay, the Fort Mason Center brings Ophelia back to the water’s edge. The audience will join Ophelia as she wanders through the grounds and buildings on her quest for identity, discovering new forms of expression around every turn. The immediate surroundings become symbolic reference points to better understand this Shakespearian myth, and her search takes on complex dimensions of vulnerability and courage in the open air. Ophelia is no longer a character in a play; she is one of us.

The history of the space, the shape of the buildings, and the fogginess of the city all combine to create a new kind of immersive theatrical experience. With live musical accompaniment, an augmented cast, and a cutting edge use of interactive video, the audience will become a part of the show like never before.

When:
Thursday, April 11th, 8:30pm
Saturday, April 13th, 8:30pm
Sunday, April 14th, 8:30pm

Youth Education Spaceship (Y.E.S.) Burner Family Days

The Youth Education Spacecraft (Y.E.S.) is being prepared for takeoff under the watchful eye of San Francisco artist Dana Albany. Dana is guiding the creation of a complex spaceship that will be 12’ in diameter and stand 8’ tall, made entirely by kids with repurposed and found objects from Recology put together in artistic ways, primarily for children age 7 – 15 at the Tenderloin and Hunters Point Boys and Girls Clubs. Along with many art techniques, an accompanying creative curriculum will teach about robotics, solar energy, environmentalism, space travel, astronomy and much more.

Supported by The Crucible, Exploratorium, Maker Faire, Burning Man Project, Black Rock Arts Foundation and Black Rock City, LLC, as well as private donors, Burner families also have the opportunity to work on the spaceship themselves at Dana's studio April 13, 14, 20 or 21 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The studio is located at 310 Griffith Street in Bayview. Participants are asked to bring a brown bag lunch. When the spaceship is ready, it will fly to Maker Faire for its maiden voyage and then will be exhibited by other sponsors in San Francisco, such as the Crucible and the Exploratorium. The spaceship will ultimately land at Burning Man, where we hope to engage the children in testing the spaceship for themselves and creating curriculum to study the humanoids which are found in Black Rock City. This is especially relevant given the event’s Cargo Cult theme. RSVPs are requested, please respond here: http://yesfamilydays.eventbrite.com/ .

9th Annual Free Create-With-Nature Earth Day Celebration
Saturday, April 20, 2013
11am - 3pm
South end of Stinson Beach, Marin County, California
Presented by Zach Pine Nature Sculpture and Samavesha

RSVP here: https://www.facebook.com/events/315722132178/

Celebrate Earth Day by creating art on the beach! Join in as community members, professional artists, and passers-by construct sculpture using sand, rocks, shells, seaweed and other beach treasures. In past years, we've stacked rock towers, made spirals from seaweed, planted a forest of "trees" made of driftwood, and created dragons, fairies, and abstract designs. During this playful event, participants work alone and in groups, transforming the beach into an evolving outdoor sculpture gallery. The intention behind the event is to create an experience that will inspire and energize people to care for and protect the earth not only on Earth Day, but throughout the year. The event starts with beach cleanup. We supply bags and gloves.

Musicians, dancers, and other artists also participate in the event, inviting collaborative expression in service to the earth. You are invited to bring along small percussion instruments such as shakers, bells, or palm-sized drums to join in the musical creation.

Instruction in sand globe making will take place periodically throughout the event, and we'll use the globes in our creative endeavors.

Bring a picnic lunch. The gathering will take place rain, shine, or fog. Come anytime 11am -3pm. All ages. Sorry, no dogs allowed at this end of the beach. Consider carpooling and public transportation. The event is at the south end of the beach (to the left as you face the ocean).

RSVPs not needed but much appreciated on the Facebook event page for the celebration.

Thanks to the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy and the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (National Park Service) for helping make this event possible.

This event is part of the national Let's G.O. (get outside) campaign of the Children & Nature Network.

Create-With-Nature Earth Day Celebration at Stinson Beach is a 100% volunteer effort, produced by Zach Pine Nature Sculpture and Samavesha.

Reverend Billy and the Stop Shopping Choir - Savitri D, director
Revolt of the Golden Toad Bay Area Tour, April 22 - 27, 2013

EXTINCT TOADS INVADE CLIMATE-KILLER CHASE BANK
is the tabloid headline the singer-activists of the Church of Stop Shopping are pursuing these days. The Golden Toad, from the cloud forests of mountainous Central America, was killed off 25 years ago by climate-change related factors such as fungal infection, pesticides and drought.

The (secular) church dons the toad masks before entering JPMorgan Chase buildings, exorcising ATMs and conversing with bankers. (The study from BankTrack.org holds that Chase is the top financier of industrial and mining projects that emit CO2 gas into the atmosphere.)

The tour mixes book-readings, direct action, and concert performance. 21 performances are coming from NY. The Revolt of the Golden Toad Tour:
